El 20 de marzo de 2015 el Papa Francisco recibió en audiencia privada al presidente de la Comisión Internacional contra la Pena de Muerte Federico Mayor Zaragoza, a quien acompañaron la Secretaria General, Asunta Vivó y los profesores Roberto Carlés y Luis Arroyo Zapatero, fundadores de la Red Académica Internacional contra la Pena de muerte y, respectivamente, Secretario General de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Derecho penal y Criminología el primero y presidente de la Société Internationale de Défense Sociale. El Papa Francisco hizo entrega de una amplia carta-declaración contra la pena de muerte, que aquí se edita y se comenta, texto que complementa la rotunda condena que se incluye en el texto más amplio ?Por una justicia realmente humana? coordinado por José Luis de la Cuesta y publicado en 2015 por las sociedades científicas de la materia penal, además de las citadas, la Association Internationale de Droit Pénal, International Society for Criminology y Fondation International Pénal et Pénitentiaire.On 20th March, 2015, Pope Francis received the president of the International Commission against the Death Penalty, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, in a private audience, accompanied by the General Secretary Asunta Vivó and professors Roberto Carlés and Luis Arroyo Zapatero, both founders of the International Academic Network against the Death Penalty and, respectively, the Secretary General of the Latin-American Association of Penal Law and Criminology and the President of the Société Intérnationale de Défense Sociale.
